Effective Sept. 1 2004 the old C-Line size 1 & 2 are no
longer currently offered products. Our
modular D90 TYPE SE
worm gear products long ago replaced these very small, 50
year old design worm gear speed reducer products. However,
because of our very large installed population and our
customer’s desires, we have continued to make these products
available. This is no longer possible because our overall
demand for these size units is now so incredibly small and
our order quantities rarely exceed one or two units per
order. This means component parts inventories are no longer
justified, and lead times will greatly lengthen. Parts
machining set-up times when allocated to one or two pieces
create a enormous increase in costs, and it is no longer
even economically viable to continue to maintain the
required manufacturing patterns, tooling, and fixtures.
Effective immediately we are considering these size units
discontinued. However if the end user customer absolutely
insists on purchasing one of these units we will continue to
make complete units available until December 31, 2004, but
at a significant increased price and a longer lead time to
reflect the issues we addressed above. On January 1, 2005
these two sizes of C-Line products will become obsolete and
will no longer be offered for sale. After January 1, 2005 we
will continue to offer for sale replacement worms and gears
for these units, however lead times may be long and pricing
will reflect the full burden of set-up costs. Also,
replacements bearings and seals will continue to be offered
subject to their availability from our suppliers.
In general
all these old size 1 and 2 C-line models can be
replaced with a “drop-in” equivalent current
D90 TYPE SE
product with excellent availability and significant cost
savings. In those few situations involving special flanges
or other unique features Winsmith
will work with you and the final user customer to ease the
transition to our current modern, readily available, worm
gear products.
